You are not alone. If you feel the earth moving beneath your feet, you are not alone. It is an unsettling feeling. Americans are used of an economic slowdown. But, we are not used to an economic cascading business stop or halt to business. Third world countries and developing countries have experienced these kind of economic halts but not America.

While there is no reason to panic, there is cause to be concerned about the economic cost of containing the Coronavirus. We Americans can get used to social distancing, washing hands, and avoiding large crowds. But, containing the virus will result in mass casualties to businesses and jobs. I think about restaurants for example. Most restaurants operate on a very thin profit margin.

If you have a slowdown in business that is devastating enough but imagine an outright shutdown? For many of these small profit margin businesses no amount of government help can come fast enough to save the business from going under. While all of this will pass, the economic casualties will be real. It is unavoidable. It is a cost of saving lives and getting rid of the virus.

If you are suffering economically because of the Coronavirus, it is not your fault. No one could have imagined that the prescription to contain the virus would be so costly.
