what happens when you file bankruptcy - chapter 7 exemptionsOne of the most important documents that you will receive from our office after you have had your initial consultation is a personalized document checklist. Based off of your conversation with one of our attorneys, a checklist will be drawn up for you to take home.

This checklist will list all the documents that we need in order to get your bankruptcy case filed. We never ask our clients to fill out any worksheets or pull their credit report but there are a few things that we need from our clients to ensure that their bankruptcy filing is accurate and efficient.

Most, if not all of these documents, are easy to get. They are usually already tucked away in an office file folder or saved on a computer and all it takes to get these documents to us is the click of a button or two!

The documents needed will vary depending on which Chapter of bankruptcy you file. There are a few documents that are needed regardless of whether you are filing a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. The most important of these documents are six months’ worth of paystubs and your most recent tax returns. You will not be able to meet with an attorney for your review & sign appointment without these two things!

Other documents that will be needed to file your case are vehicle titles (recreational vehicles included), any retirement account statements, bank account information, and creditor bills and/or statements. Depending on your individual situation more or less may be needed.

Once you have met with an attorney, they will go through your personal checklist with you and let you know exactly what is needed and when it is needed. If at any point you have questions regarding the documents needed or are having difficulties obtaining these documents, always feel free to reach out to our office and we will do all we can to help you!
